One of the standout attractions at this year’s Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show was the new Smuggler 800 Centre Console Elite, a boat that perfectly demonstrates how modern premium centre consoles RIBs are evolving.
While Smuggler’s reputation has been built on producing some of New Zealand’s most capable offshore boats and amphibious RIBs, the new Elite Amphibious showcases a more sophisticated and social interpretation of the proven 800 platform.

The most noticeable change is the emphasis on comfort and entertaining. A generous full-beam aft bench seat creates a true social hub at the stern, providing comfortable seating for family and guests while making the most of the available cockpit space. Combined with the open centre-console layout, the result is an inviting environment that encourages conversation and relaxation, whether at anchor or underway.
The Elite on display at the New Zealand Boat Show featured a premium specification package, including diamond-stitched cinder grey upholstery that elevated the overall ambience and reinforced the boat’s luxury credentials.

A well-appointed wet bar complete with a Dometic pull out refrigerator and sink further enhances its entertaining appeal, making day trips and extended outings more enjoyable.
Power comes from a Mercury 300hp V8 outboard, delivering strong and close to 50-knot performance expected of a Smuggler, while features such as auto trim tabs contribute to effortless handling.
The electronics package includes a Simrad NSS12 multifunction display and Fusion stereo system, complemented by a full Hella lighting package that enhances both functionality and atmosphere.

Practicality is equally well considered, with hot and cold freshwater systems which couples to a pull out shower in the stern, saltwater and freshwater washdowns, a live-bait tank, electric toilet and remote through-hull anchor winch all fitted to the show boat.
